In the second half of the 1980s and towards the end of it, death metal emerged as a peripheral musical genre within the underground scene. However, in the early 1990s, this genre experienced an impressive rise thanks to the influence of bands like Death, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse and others, mostly from the Florida and East Coast regions of the United States.

At the same time, in the UK, iconic figures like Carcass, Benediction and Napalm Death were forging their own path in the world of death metal. In Scandinavia, on the opposite shore of the North Sea, bands like Entombed, Therion and At the Gates brought their own unique style to the genre. It was at this point that the rest of the world began to pay attention, and death metal established itself as a musical phenomenon. Since then, it has proven to be one of the most organically evolving genres, with an ever-renewing fan base and a growing number of up-and-coming bands.

Today, although death metal has experienced fragmentation and spawned numerous subgenres, it has never lost its vitality. It remains a vibrant and ever-evolving genre, and its influence lives on in heavy music, proving that death metal has never been more alive.
